"We can find the grace and the courage to grow through the hard stuff."- Lucy Calkins
Our goal is to help our students become passionate, avid, and skilled readers, writers, and inquirers. We work towards this goal together through research, strong curriculum development, and working shoulder-to-shoulder on solving challenging reading and writing problems.
Within our classrooms, we believe our students are authentic readers and writers who take their craft seriously. Each day, we work towards mastery of key skills that will help us develop practices to better communicate with the people and world around us. Letter writing, expert books, non-fiction series, group discussions, strong book choice practices, and daily conferring are a few of the strategies in which we meet our students' literacy needs.
As we move through the year, second graders take on the greater challenge of utilizing literacy as a means of making sense of the world around them. Reading and writing become a strong link to problem seeking and solving in math, science, STEM, and technology. Our rich, challenging, and divergent curriculum allows for students to explore learning through the reading and writing process, and creates a magical place for life-long learning. We absolutely love our reading and writing time, and welcome you to come celebrate with us through our work.
